Police: Woman hit, injured pedestrian moments before being involved in deadly wreck

MAHANOY TWP., Pa. - A 37-year-old Shenandoah woman struck a pedestrian in a hit-and-run moments before being involved in a fatal wreck that claimed the life of a 62-year-old man in Schuylkill County, according to state police.

The two incidents happened around 12:30 a.m Saturday. on Route 54 in Mahaony Township.

Police said a vehicle driven by 37-year-old Shirl Mumie of Shenandoah ran into a 41-year-old male pedestrian, causing minor injuries.

Mumie then continued up the road for a short distance until losing control of her vehicle, crossing the center-line and colliding head-on with a vehicle driven by 62-year-old James Hossler of Shenandoah.

Hossler was killed in the wreck.

Mumie was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

So far, police are not saying if charges will be filed.
