Trial underway for former mayor accused of having child porn

A former Schuylkill County mayor headed to court Wednesday to face child pornography charges.

Richard Corkery, former mayor of Coaldale, is charged with 27 counts of possessing child pornography.

Police say while working as a radio host for WLSH-AM radio.

Corkery used his station computer to access child pornography on numerous occasion back in 2011.

Police say dozens of pictures of naked boys were found on the hard drive.

In court Nesquehoning's police chief said an anonymous letter prompted the investigation.

The radio station's manager said when he first confronted Corkery about the images, Corkery said that while trying to log onto the Father Judge School website, a pop up directed him to the pornographic images.

However an FBI agent testified Corkery eventually admitted to looking up child porn sites but said he never saw the 34 pictures in question.

A State Police forensic and internet investigator testified Google searches on Corkery's work computer revealed searches such as "young naked boys," and twinkboys.com.

He went on to say virtually all the images, searches and web terms dealt with young boys.

The trial continues Thursday and is expected to wrap by Friday.
