Police: Boy, 10, struck by car, killed in Pine Grove Township

PINE GROVE TWP., Pa. - A 10-year-old boy lost his life while walking along a road in Schuylkill County on New Year's Eve, state police said.

The victim, Chase Pahula, and his 17-year-old brother were walking along the westbound shoulder of Route 443 in Pine Grove Township shortly before 8:30 p.m. Monday. The driver of an SUV, which was rounding a curve in the road, couldn't see the boys and struck Pahula, police said.

Pahula was flown to Hershey Medical Center, but he later died of his injuries, police said.

The SUV driver, a 52-year-old Lebanon man, was not injured.

No charges were filed, but the investigation by state police and their Reading-based Troop L crash analysis and reconstruction unit continues.
