Police ID man killed in fiery I-78 crash

Daniel Murphy of Hackettstown was pronounced dead at scene

WILLIAMS TWP., Pa. - State police have identified the man who was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 78 in Northampton County on Monday.

The accident happened around 8 a.m. as a station wagon driven by Daniel C. Murphy was stopped at the toll booth in Williams Township.

A tractor trailer driven by a 55-year-old Allentown man hit the back of Murphy's vehicle, and both went through the toll plaza onto the north shoulder of the highway, where they burst into flames, state police said.

Murphy, 65, of of Hackettstown, N.J., was trapped in his vehicle and died at the scene.

The truck driver was not injured, and police did not release his name.

The accident remains under investigation.
