READING, Pa. - A man police consider a suspect in an Allentown homicide has been identified and arrested in Reading, and now faces numerous charges.
Tyrell Ronald Young, 27, of 125 S. Fourth Street in Reading, was taken into custody Wednesday driving a 2003 silver BMW that the homicide victim was allegedly trying to sell through Craigslist.
Police found 41-year-old Eric Ervin inside a trailer behind his Aces High Auto Detailing Shop in the 600 block of Nelson Street in Allentown early Wednesday.
Ervin had a gunshot wound to the body, and his death was ruled a homicide.
He was apparently the victim of a car deal that went bad.
Ervin's girlfriend told police that a man with a 347 area code had expressed interest in buying the car and had made arrangements by phone to see the vehicle.
The girlfriend gave police Ervin's cell phone, and police gathered one telephone number with 347 area code that was in contact with Ervin numerous times by call and text messages.
The cell phone for the 347 number was located in the 100 block of South Fourth Street in Reading around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
What led to the shooting is still not known. but police apprehended Young Wednesday in Reading.
Police found a pistol in plain view on the floor of the BMW, and the gun had been reported stolen from a burglary on January 13 in Cumru Twp., Berks Co.
Police said Young did not have a license to carry a firearm and a background check showed that in March of 2005 Young was convicted for robbery and sentenced to six to 15 years.
Because of the felony conviction, he was not allowed to possess a firearm.
He was initially charged in Berks County with firearm violations.
Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said in a news conference Thursday afternoon that Young has been charged with homicide, robbery, illegally possessing a firearm, theft of a vehicle and receiving stolen property relating to a vehicle and a firearm.
Young will be transferred to Lehigh County.
WFMZ's Bo Koltnow will have more on this story Thursday night on the news at 5.
