Tyrell Young arrested in Allentown murder case

READING, Pa. - A man police consider a suspect in an Allentown homicide has been identified and arrested in Reading.

Tyrell Ronald Young, 27, of 125 S. Fourth Street in Reading, was taken into custody Wednesday driving a 2003 silver BMW  that the homicide victim was allegedly trying to sell through Craigslist.

Police found 41-year-old Eric Ervin inside a trailer behind his Aces High Auto Detailing Shop in the 600 block of Nelson Street in Allentown early Wednesday.

He was apparently the victim of a car deal that went bad.

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said in a news conference Thursday afternoon that Young has been charged with criminal homicide, robbery, receiving stolen property and felony possession of a firearm.

What led to the shooting is still not known, but shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday, a person of interest was apprehended at North 3rd and Walnut streets in Reading.

Police found a pistol in plain view on the floor of the BMW, and the gun had been reported stolen from a burglary on January 13 in Cumru Twp., Berks Co.

Police said Young did not have a license to carry a firearm and a background check showed that in March of 2005 Young was convicted for robbery and sentenced to six to 15 years.

Because of the felony conviction, he was not allowed to possess a firearm.

Young will be transferred to Lehigh County.
