Police investigate sexual assault at ESU

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Students at East Stroudsburg University are on high alert as police investigate an alleged sexual assault on campus.

It's the second time police have been called to the campus in less than a week.

An email was sent to all East Stroudsburg University students on November 3rd.

An alleged sexual assault inside Lenape Residence Hall on campus.

"We've been talking about it in class and everything that there being a rape on campus and basically how there is a concern about how a bunch of bad things are happening on campus," said ESU junior, Nicholas Zastenik.

Last week, there was an armed robbery on campus.

According to this latest safety alert, an alleged sexual attack took place at 2:15 Sunday morning in the female victim's dorm room.

The email also notes the victim knew her alleged attackers but they were not ESU students.

"It wasn't a shock to me because this happened a few years ago," said one female student who didn't want to be identified. "It was really bad here, like, our sophomore year."

Many walking on campus hope the news means more patrols by ESU police.

"I feel like they try to get you for parking and everything like that but not the real things. Like the crimes that actually happen," said another student.

More patrols could mean an increased sense of security.

"It's not safe walking around. Especially being a girl."

"Being a student here, I feel like it definitely brings awareness that there is not that great of people on campus but there is going to be crime everywhere," said Zastenik.

University officials tell us they have turned over all information in the case to the Pennsylvania State Police Department.

Investigators at the Swiftwater barracks say the investigation is still ongoing.
