Police: Man charged in attempted holdup that netted 75 cents at Sands casino

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A man was arrested for attempting to hold up a woman as she gambled at the Sands casino, officials said.

James M. Compton stuck a finger in the right side of Nabeghta Mouhrez while she was playing a slot machine in the casino at 2:35 a.m. Sunday and asked, "Do you want to see my pistol?" officials said.

Compton then told Mouhrez he needed her money, and tried to grab 75 cents, officials said, adding that Mouhrez also offered whatever money was in her slot machine, but was unable to cash it out.

Compton, 62, of 513 Spruce St., Easton, was arraigned on a robbery charge and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $20,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 5.
