Police: 'Miracle' no one hurt after runaway car travels 1,000 feet on busy highway

Officer: Unmanned car had green light as it went though busy intersection

Runaway car

MAHONING TWP., Pa. - A police officer in Carbon County says "it's a miracle" no one was hurt after a runaway car traveled more than 1,000 feet along a busy stretch of Route 443 in Mahoning Township.

The drama unfolded Friday outside the Carbon Plaza Mall.

Police say the unmanned car somehow started rolling from the mall parking spot, jumped a curb and traveled out the entrance the wrong way, before heading out onto Route 443.

The car went through a busy intersection before crashing at the Lowe's store.

One officer at the scene called it a miracle no one was hurt because the driver-less car just happened to have the green light when it went through the intersection.
