Police name 2 suspects in Reading's latest triple shooting

Police investigate triple shooting

READING, Pa. - The victims of Reading's latest triple shooting have not cooperated with the investigation, police said.

The shooting happened around 1:45 a.m., Monday, in the 800 block of Franklin Street in Reading, near Peach Street.

A woman was shot in the hand, one man was shot in the shoulder, and another man received a bullet to the buttocks, police said.

Police said one of the victims, Matthew Christopher Soto, 24, was arrested after it was discovered he was wanted by the Pennsylvania State Police for escape.

The second victim, Juan Carlos Cortez, 27, was arrested because police said he was found to be in possession of marijuana.

Police said that all three victims have claimed they were not together at the time of the shooting, and have no idea who shot them.

Neighbors said they just want the violence to stop.

"Because you could be walking down the street and all of a sudden, you could get shot," said Janet Reed.

This is not the only triple shooting the Reading police is trying to solve. On Friday, May 4th, around 7:00 p.m., there was a triple shooting near 17th and Perkiomen Avenue. Police have named two suspects, Christopher Pagan, 19, and Xavier Jason Pagan, 22.

Anyone who has information that can help investigators is asked to call Crime Alert Berks County toll-free at 877-373-9913.
