Police: Semi-automatic handgun found at scene of murder-suicide in Carbon County

BANKS TWP., Pa. - Two people from Carbon County are dead following gunfire in their home.

William Wilkinson, 44, killed Denise Wilkinson, 44, and then shot himself, State Police say.

It happened around 10:45pm Friday in the first block of East Main Street in Junedale, Banks Township, police said.

They were called to the home for a domestic disturbance, but by the time they arrived, William Wilkinson has had already killed Denise and himself, according to police.

There is no word  yet on what lead to the shooting.

An inventory note was left hanging in one of the home's windows by authorities. Items listed on the inventory note found inside the home include a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and ammunition.

According to court records, Denise Wilkinson filed for divorce in October 2013.

Sources close to the couple tell 69 News that William Wilkinson had been arrested multiple times in the past for allegedly shooting out the windows of his wife's car and allegedly assaulting her in 2013.

An autopsy will be conducted Monday at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, police said.
