Police shoot Bucks Co. man who was about to be committed to mental hospital

New Hope Shooting

NEW HOPE, Pa. - Officials in Bucks County say an armed man was shot by police who were trying to take him into custody to be committed for mental health treatment.

It happened just before 8 p.m. Saturday night in New Hope.

Prosecutors tell the Philadelphia Inquirer that the 46-year-old man pointed a gun at officers who were at his home to take him to a facility for a mental health evaluation.

The DA says police fired several shots before the man was taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound to the stomach. No officers were hurt and the incident is under investigation.
