Police work to ID body found in Reading through fingerprints

Body found in Reading

READING, Pa. - Police say they have to turn to fingerprints to try to identify a man whose dead body was discovered off the Warren Street Bypass in Reading.

"We're actively seeking the person out through fingerprints, and other checks," said Sgt. Matthew Schappell, Reading Police Dept.

A motorist discovered the Latino man's body alongside the ramp from the westbound side of the highway, also known as Route 12, to River Road in the Riverdale section of the city shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

"It's doesn't appear that the homicide occurred there. It appears that the body was dumped there. So we've got a lot of work to do," said Sgt. Schappell.

The man appeared to be in his mid-20s to mid-30s and was wearing a gray t-shirt and tan shorts.

Authorities say the victim suffered injuries, but they would not give specifics.

While clues appear to be few and far between, there does appear to be plenty of frustration among neighbors who want to know how a dead man ended up on the side of the road in their neighborhood.

"It's sickening. It's bad. It's horrible," said Priscilla Reyes, neighbor.

Police say they are reviewing surveillance footage for clues.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning.
