A company that relies on people enjoying the outdoors is feeling the effects of the government shutdown.
Ruth Jones with Kittatinny Canoes along the Delaware River in Pike County said they are losing business because the nearby Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is closed. All national parks are closed because of the federal government shutdown.
"People can't go south because we border the park service land," said Jones. "All their access areas are closed and we can't launch anyone north of them to paddle through it, either."
Not only are they losing business during this primte time of nice weather, but employees are also affected.
"The people from the park service that got laid off, or furloughed I guess they call it, eventually they're going to get that pay check. Our staff that we have to lay off because we're not as busy now, they're not going to get a pay check," said Jones.
"You need this shoulder season income to carry you through the Winter months. It's very important," she added.
Jones said her family's company is fortunate because they have access to parts of the river not affected by the shutdown. She hopes national parks open soon.
