Open House seats headline New Jersey primaries

Several contested seats include 1st time candidates.

Primary day in New Jersey

TRENTON, N.J. - New Jersey voters are picking their parties' candidates for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

There are an unusual number of contested elections across the state in Tuesday's primaries, largely because of three open congressional seats.

The U.S. Senate race features four Republicans who have never before been elected to public office. They are Jeff Bell, Brian Goldberg Richard Pezzullo, and Murray Sabrin.

The winner will be an underdog against the incumbent, Democrat Cory Booker.

There are also contested primaries in the 1st, 3rd and 12th congressional districts, because the men elected two years ago are not seeking office again.

Low voter turnout is predicted.

Polls will remain open until 8 p.m.
