Public invited to PPL Center Open House & Arts Park Celebration

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - If you've wanted to take a look inside the PPL Center for free, you'll soon get your chance.

Mark your calendar for Saturday September 13, starting at 1 p.m. for the "Rise Together Allentown" open house and Arts Park Celebration.

Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski, along with co-owners of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms hockey team Rob and Jim Brooks made the announcement Wednesday.

The brand new hockey arena will host its first event on Friday, September 12 when The Eagles perform in concert.

The next day, the public can tour the 10,500-seat venue.

Performers in the city's arts community will also provide entertainment in the Arts Park, a centerpiece for the downtown Arts District.

The park, set between the Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley, the Baum School of Art and Miller Symphony Hall, it focuses the city and arts community's efforts to revitalize the downtown commercial district and surrounding neighborhoods.

"The new arena is a fantastic building with all the modern amenities," said Pawlowski. "This is the chance for the public to get an inside glimpse of the facility for free. It is also a tremendous opportunity to acquaint the public or reacquaint the public with other organizations within walking distance of the arena."

Parking fees will be reduced to $3 on September 13 from noon until 5 p.m.

Parking will also be $3 at the Arena Reserved Deck which will be open from noon until 5 p.m.
