Pottstown police chief beefing up force

Chief beefs up police force

POTTSTOWN, Pa. - The Pottstown Police Department is growing, and it comes at a good time.

Two Pottstown police officers were attacked while while trying to help a shooting victim early Sunday outside the Montgomery Elks Lodge.

The department is adding seven new officers,  bringing the total number of officers to 46.

"It's the first time since we've hired that many in one time. You have to go back to 70s to find that six guys being hired at the time," said Pottstown Police Chief Richard Drumheller.

The chief said two of the new officers are in the academy and won't be on the streets until November.
