Priest Accused Of Stealing From Church To Stand Trial

READING, Pa. - A Roman Catholic priest charged with stealing nearly half-a-million dollars from a church is also heading to trial.

Richard Nachajski waived his right to preliminary hearing Friday morning.

Nachajski is accused of taking more than $476,000 from St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in the 500 block of Summit Avenue.

Berks County detectives said they have documentation that details journeys to Mexico, Florida, St. Marteen, and Thailand.

"I'm certain many people of this church are troubled by the fact these funds were used for his own entertainment and not for church purposes," Berks County District Attorney John Adams said at the time of Nachajski's arrest.

Authorities said Nachajski was a priest at St. Anthony's for 11 years.
