WASHINGTON, N.J. - A man has been charged with first degree murder in the deadly assault of a woman inside an apartment in Warren County, New Jersey.

Ralph Atkinson was arrested Thursday and committed to the Warren County Correctional Center on $1 million bail.

Atkinson's apprehension came a day after police, responding to the report of a suspicious death, found a woman's body inside an apartment at 20 W. Stewart St. in Washington.

Further investigation revealed that Atkinson, 38, of Columbia, New Jersey, assaulted the victim, identified as Margaret Graf-White, with a sharp instrument earlier in the day Wednesday, said police, adding that the two were in a relationship together.

In addition to first degree murder, Atkinson was charged with various weapons offenses.
