Royals win series, make history in Greenville

The Reading Royals clinched their Kelly Cup Playoff first round series with Greenville on Sunday, and made ECHL history in the process.

The Royals beat the Road Warriors 5-0 in Game 5, becoming the first team in ECHL history to win a playoff series with all four wins coming by shutout.

Mark Owuya stopped all 19 shots he faced to earn the shutout win in goal.

Yannick Tifu, Stanislav Galiev, Barry Almeida, Brett Flemming, and Ethan Cox all scored for Reading.

The top-seeded Royals beat 8th-seeded Greenville 4-1 in the best-of-seven series, earning a spot in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Reading will face either the 4th-seeded Florida Everblades or the 5th-seeded Elmira Jackals in the semifinals.

Game 1 of the best-of-seven series will be Friday night at 7:05pm at the Sovereign Center.
