Ruiz, Howard hurt; Quintero, Cloyd to join Phillies

Two of the Phillies key veterans are dealing with injuries, which has the Phils calling on the IronPigs for reinforcements.

Carlos Ruiz left Sunday's game with a strained hamstring, and catcher Humberto Quintero will meet the Phillies in Miami to replace him.

Ruiz is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list.

The Phillies also announed that Ryan Howard is dealing with a knee injury.

Howard missed Sunday's game against the Reds, and will also miss Monday's game in Miami against the Marlins.

Ruiz and Howard will both have MRIs on Monday.

The Phillies also announced that right-hander Tyler Cloyd will be recalled from the IronPigs to start on Tuesday against the Marlins.

Cloyd was outstanding in his only other start for the Phillies this season, allowing just two runs on two hits against the Diamondbacks two weeks ago.
