Salon Damaged By Fire Thanks Firefighters For Efforts

SINKING SPRING, Pa. - In August, scorching flames could have burned a hair salon to ashes. But quick-acting firefighters stepped in just in time.

Today, Hair on the Avenue in Sinking Spring, Berks County is saying thank you, and hoping you can help, too.

It's business as usual at the salon and many are grateful for that.

But in August, flames shooting from the third floor threatened to burn the business to the ground.

Thanks to fast-acting firefighters, the salon was saved.

"It was such an overwhelming feeling of relief to know that our people were okay," said David Meas. "No one was hurt."

The owners, David and Debbie Meas, wanted to say thank you and give back to the firefighters who saved their livelihood -- the Western Berks Fire Department.

All day they've been offering free haircuts to first responders.

"This goes above and beyond what a business has ever done for this fire department in particular," said Jeff Weidner.

The Western Berks Fire Department is professionally staffed with more than 100 volunteers firefighters. The company is funded by the municipalities it serves.

"There are other expenses that go above and beyond the revenue we get from the municipalities," said Weidner. "And this is very helpful to have a little extra so that we can maybe give back a little bit to our firefighters and recognize their hard work and things like that."

Debbie and David are trying to make that happen with a fundraiser.

"Our goal is to raise at least $2,000 for the fire company," said David. "And we want to fill the boot with loot. So come on down."
