Sands employee charged in theft of co-worker's jacket, phone

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A Sands casino employee lost his gamble that he could make off with a co-worker's property undetected, officials said.

Scott J. Barone was arrested for taking a $100 jacket, $300 Apple iPhone and $8 pack of Marlboro Lights owned by Susan Vroom at about 2:15 a.m. Saturday, officials said.

Barone left the casino after finding the phone and cigarettes in the jacket hanging in an employee access hallway, officials added.

The theft was captured by Sands security cameras, and after a casino investigator phoned Barone, he returned to the casino with the items, officials said.

Barone, 39, of 2775 Red Oak Circle, Bethlehem Twp., Northampton Co., was arraigned on theft and receiving stolen property charges and committed to Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. Oct. 18.
