Bus driver enters plea

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - A Montgomery County school bus driver has admitted to her role in a deadly hit-and-run crash.

Donna Engler pleaded guilty Wednesday to involuntary manslaughter and careless driving.

Engler was behind the wheel of a school bus when she struck and killed 78-year-old Shirley Wilhelm as she was trying to cross the street in Lower Pottsgrove Township on the morning of Sept. 9, 2013, police said.

Engler initially fled the scene but she later contacted police and turned herself in, police said.

Neighbors said Wilhelm was known for walking several miles each day, often visiting a convenience store at the intersection to buy lottery tickets.

Sentencing for Engler has not yet been scheduled.
