Scott Oliver could get new trial in Northampton County

Convicted of raping and killing 11-year-old girl in 1980s

Man may get new trial

EASTON, Pa. - A man who was convicted for raping and killing an 11-year-old girl in Easton in the 1980s could be getting a new trial.

The Pennsylvania Superior Court has ordered Northampton County Court to reconsider the case of Scott Oliver, who was found guilty in 1989 of the rape and murder of Melissa Jaroschak.

DNA evidence will prove Oliver, who is serving a life sentence, is not guilty, defense attorneys said.

A decision about a new trial has not been made.
