MAPLEWOOD, N.J. - U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg said he is now cancer free.

The New Jersey Democrat was hospitalized February 15 after falling at his home.

He was treated for a bleeding ulcer.

Four days later it was announced that B-cell lymphoma was found in his stomach.

Lautenberg began chemotherapy treatment and returned to the Senate on March 2.

He said his doctor told him Friday, "It's gone, Frank."

With today's death of Sen. Robert Byrd, Lautenberg, 86, is now the oldest member of the Senate.
