Better weather for Phillies, IronPigs season home openers

Rain forced teams to postpone games Monday night

Ironpigs and Phillies ready to play

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs are hosting their 2014 regular season home openers.

Both teams were scheduled to take the home field for the first time Monday, but Mother Nature got in the way.

The Phillies announced the postponement of their game a day early, but fans of the IronPigs headed to Coca-Cola Park on Monday, hoping the rain would hold off, but it wasn't meant to be.

Despite the rain-out, team officials are still upbeat about the start of the season.

"We are excited, we are ready, we've waited seven months really for opening day so baseball is back," said Jon Schaeffer, director of new media for the IronPigs.

"For the whole season, we'll have a 50/50 raffle, which we're excited about because actually... all the money raised is going to go to IronPigs charities," he added.

The IronPigs will try again Tuesday at 7:05 p.m., and Monday night's game will be made up as part of a double-header Wednesday starting at 5:35 p.m.
