Bogus Army general bilks elderly woman out of $21K

RICHLANDTOWN, Pa. - A man posing as a U.S. Army official on the Internet bilked an 81-year-old Bucks County woman out of more than $20,000, according to authorities.

State Police said the victim, of Richlandtown Borough, met the bogus Army official on Facebook.

He identified himself as an Army general who was in Syria and needed money for a transport out of the country.

The woman then sent a money gram for $21,000

State Police said they are closing their investigation due to a lack of leads.

The case is being forwarded to the FBI.
