Judge approves release of Cosby juror names

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - The Montgomery County judge who presided over Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial released the jurors' names.

Judge Steven O'Neill ruled Wednesday their identities can be released, but they cannot discuss comments, arguments or votes made by other jurors.

Prosecutors and Cosby's lawyers fought against releasing the names of the jury, arguing it would make it would make it even more difficult to select an impartial jury in the case of a retrial.

Lawyers for multiple media outlets argued the names should almost always be made public to ensure transparency in the judicial process.

In the court order, O'Neill said he balanced rights of the parties to a fair and impartial trial and the rights of the press, and decided the press has a First Amendment right to the names of the jurors.

The judge released the names of the jurors after they were notified Wednesday afternoon.

Cosby is accused of drugging and molesting Andrea Constand at his home in Cheltenham Township in 2004.

O'Neill declared a mistrial Saturday after jurors said they were hopelessly deadlocked.
