Neighbor imprisoned for stealing over $215K in elderly man's assets

A 48-year old Bensalem woman has been imprisoned for 11 and a half to 23 months for stealing more than $215,000 from an elderly neighbor.

The Bucks County District Attorney's Office says Patricia Westerman lived across the street from the 91-year-old victim, Norman Eddinger, who entrusted Westerman with his finances.

Eddinger granted her power of attorney after his wife died in 2015.

Officials say Eddinger struggled to communicate with banks and businesses due to hearing loss, so he turned his accounts to Westerman who abused his trust and maxed out his credit cards, opened new cards and drained his bank accounts.

Westerman pleaded guilty in September to felony charges of identity theft and related charges. The DA's office says Eddinger died in October, one month after Westerman's guilty plea.

In addition to her prison term, Westerman is sentenced to four years probation and must pay back the $215,000 in restitution to Eddinger's estate.
