New Hope shop operator arrested for sexual assault

Peter Markowicz charged with groping another male on Delaware canal path

SOLEBURY TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Fifty-six-year-old Peter Markowicz of New Hope was arrested Tuesday for the July 1 sexual assault of another man along the Delaware canal towpath in Solebury Township, Bucks County.

Solebury Township police arrested Markowicz at a store he runs called Exquisite Earth at 126 S. Main St. in New Hope.

Markowicz is charged with indecent assault, simple assault and open lewdness.

Solebury Police Detective Roy Ferrari, who arrested Markowicz, said a tattoo described by the victim matches one on Markowicz. 

Initial police reports about  the assault described it as a black oriental symbol tattooed on the suspect's upper left arm.

Markowicz is free on $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August.

The assault occurred about 12:30 p.m. July 1 in Washington Crossing Historic Park.

The victim reported the suspect was riding a bicycle and spoke with an Italian accent.
