Philly officer killed in wrong-way crash; driver charged

PHILADELPHIA - Police in Philadelphia are mourning the loss of one of their own who died when his motorcycle was hit by someone driving the wrong way on Interstate 95.

Ofc. Brian Lorenzo was off-duty but in full uniform and heading north on a Highway Patrol motorcycle when he was hit Sunday morning near Cottman Avenue by a vehicle heading south in the northbound lanes.

The other driver, John Leck Jr., of Levittown, was charged with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence and other crimes. He's in stable condition at a hospital and wasn't immediately available to comment.

Lorenzo, 48, served on the force for 23 years and left behind a wife and three children.

Mayor Michael Nutter has ordered city flags lowered to half-staff for the next month in Lorenzo's honor.
