Police: Montco woman was DUI when she hit teen bicyclist, kept driving

L. FREDERICK TWP., Pa. - A Montgomery County woman is facing charges after police say she hit a teen riding a bicycle and kept driving.

It happened Monday around 12:15 p.m. on Route 29 near Woodland Avenue in Lower Frederick Township, according to state police.

Leeann Burnett, 46, of Perkiomenville, was driving north when her car veered to the shoulder and hit a teenager riding a bicycle, officials said.

The 15-year-old from Schwenksville was thrown from the bike, and the car continued driving, dragging the bicycle for almost a mile, police said.

The teen was flown to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for treatment of leg injuries.

Lower Frederick Township Police stopped Burnett a short distance away. Police said she showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance and was taken into custody.

Burnett was charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, accidents involving death or personal injury, driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, reckless endangerment and other offenses.
