Suspect arrested in large-scale thefts from Kmart stores

LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP., Pa. - Police have made an arrest in a series of burglaries that netted the suspect more than $100,000 worth of jewelry from local Kmart stores.

Timothy J. Schittler has been arrested and charged in a pair of thefts from a Kmart store in Ephrata Township, Lancaster County.

The first happened on June 3, 2013; the second happened on March 25, 2014, said police, adding that Schittler got away with an estimated $71,000 worth of jewelry.

Schittler then forced his way inside a Kmart store in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, on April 17 and made off with another large amount of jewelry, police said.

In an email to local media on Tuesday, Lower Pottsgrove police Chief Michael A. Foltz, said: "I personally thank each of you for covering this, especially WFMZ (Ryan Hughes) for drawing the connection between Ephrata and Lower Pottsgrove incidents."

Schittler, 23, of Lancaster, was charged with burglary and theft by unlawful taking. He was committed to the Lancaster County Prison.
