Suspect in Phoenixville fatal shooting waives preliminary trial

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. - Keyon La-Shawn Carpenter's scheduled preliminary hearing was waived Wednesday. 

His formal arraignment is now scheduled for Nov. 2.  

The 21 year old was taken into custody by Phoenixville Police and U.S. Marshals in Philadelphia Sept. 29. Carpenter was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Joshua Mitchell. 

According to police reports, several witnesses at the scene the night of the incident identified Carpenter as the shooter.

Witnesses reported that the two men had been arguing, when Carpenter allegedly pulled a handgun and fired one shot at Mitchell and witnesses, according to police.
