Trash truck catches on fire, closes all lanes of Route 100

Trash truck fire shuts down Route 100 in Montgomery County

UPPER POTTSGROVE TWP., Pa. - A trash truck caught on fire on Route 100 Tuesday evening, causing the entire roadway to close.

According to officials, the incident was called in at around 6:25 p.m. on the northbound side of Route 100 right along the Pottstown and Upper Pottsgrove Township line.

All northbound and southbound lanes of Route 100 were closed.

Witnesses reported hearing several explosions when the fire broke out.

Officials say a hazmat crew was called in, as well as fire crews and police.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital.

There's no word on whether or not the driver of the trash truck was taken to the hospital.
