Steelhawks lose heartbreaker on final play

A failed two-point conversion with no time left doomed the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks Saturday night in a heartbreaking 79-77 loss to Alabama at Stabler Arena.

Hunter Wanket, filling in for injured Bethlehem Catholic grad Adam Bednarik at quarterback, hit Tyrone Collins for a seven-yard touchdown pass with no time remaining to draw the Steelhawks within two.

But Wanket's pass on the ensuing two-point conversion attempt fell incomplete.

Russell Hill threw for over 300 yards on the night for the first place Hammers.

It was the first home game for the Steelhawks in over a month.

The Steelhawks (2-3) will be at home next Saturday and again the following Sunday.
