Swingers Club Looks To Open

EMMAUS, Pa. - A new business just might tarnish one local town's squeaky clean image.

Emmaus, Lehigh County has been named one of the best places to live in the country.

But now, a swingers' club is looking to set up shop on Main Street.

In order for the club to open, it has to get a permit from the zoning board.

Some Emmaus residents said they will do what they can to make sure that doesn't happen.

It's the talk of the town, said Kirby Traub, who has been serving up hot dogs across the street for 13 years.

He said since the owners of The Vault Social Club filed for a zoning permit so it can open, tongues have been wagging.

This is not a positive image for a town which was voted 87th in the country as a small community by Money magazine last year, said Gene Clock.

The Vault's website said it's a private social club catering to mature, open-minded adults.

Members are couples and single women who can access VIP rooms upstairs for a more intimate setting.

While the web site doesn't say the club is for swingers, there is a link to swing lifestyle, a web site for swingers to hook up.

The Vault website said the club will keep it hot, sexy and discreet.

But Some in Emmaus said there's nothing hot, sexy or discreet about it.

It brings a type of client to our town that we do not necessarily want, said Clock.

The Main Street program has sent out a blast email to residents.

And some local churches are encouraging people to attend the June 24 zoning meeting.

Borough officials said there is nothing illegal about the club, but that the owners will have to prove it will be compatible with the rest of the district.

The owner of the vault did not return our call asking for comment on the story.

Borough officials said they think the zoning hearing will be standing room only.
