Girl suffers head injury; parents also hospitalized

Unbuckled toddler thrown from taxi

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - A 14-month-old girl is hospitalized after she was thrown from a taxi she was riding in with her parents.

The girl was found outside the taxi after it was hit by a car at the intersection of Franklin and Lafayette streets in Hackettstown, N.J.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. Monday when a car driven by 63-year-old Mary Canavan of Hackettstown ran a stop sign and hit the cab, police said.

The impact pushed the taxi into a telephone pole.

The toddler's parents - 46-year-old Miguel Mirand and 26-year-old Zeida Bonilla of Hackettstown-- were both trapped inside the taxi.

They were taken to Morristown Medical Center, and their daughter was flown to the same facility, suffering from a head injury. There's no word on their current conditions.

The taxi driver-41-year-old Miguel Caceres of Hackettstown--, and Canavan were treated and released from Hackettsotwn Regional Medical Center.

Police said the toddler was not in a child seat.

A four-year-old girl traveling in Canavan's vehicle was not injured.

Franklin Street was closed for several hours.

The incident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
