Tractor trailer catches fire on turnpike

FRANKLIN TWP., Pa. - Officials in Carbon County had to deal with strong winds Wednesday morning as they battled a tractor trailer fire on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

It happened a little after 5 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the NE Extension in Franklin Township.

Officials say a truck carrying produce caught fire and strong winds caused the flames to spread to the cargo area.

The accident snarled traffic while crews worked to put out the fire.

There is no word on whether the driver of the truck suffered any injuries.
