WEST HANOVER TWP., Pa. -

A Pennsylvania State Police trooper and a suspect injured in a shootout near Harrisburg are both in stable condition following surgery.

A state police spokesman said the trooper went to West Hanover Township in Dauphin County at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday to check out the reported location of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run.

Police allege that a man opened fire, striking the trooper multiple times, and the trooper returned fire, injuring the suspect. He surrendered after state police and local officers surrounded the area.

David Edward Ricker, 49, of Harrisburg was charged with first degree attempted murder, assault on a law enforcement officer and aggravated assault.
