Trucker Dies After Crash That Closed I-78 East For Several Hours

GREENWICH TWP., Pa. - An accident involving an overturned tractor trailer closed a stretch of Interstate 78 East in Berks and Lehigh counties for several hours Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened shortly before 1:30 in the eastbound lanes of I-78, in the area of mile marker 42.6, in Greenwich Township, Berks County.

State police told 69 News that the driver of the truck, identified as Wiley Russell, 58, of Lufkin, Texas, died on the scene a short time after the crash.

An autopsy is being done to determine whether Russell died as a result of the accident or some sort of medical condition.

I-78 was closed between Route 737 (Exit 40) in Krumsville and Route 863 (Exit 45) in New Smithville, Lehigh County for more than six hours.
