Card game turns into alleged knifepoint robbery

Mark R. Hanuszak, 29, of Phillipsburg, allegedly threatened, robbed 19 year old man

HIGH BRIDGE BOROUGH, N.J. - A Hunterdon County card game took a violent twist resulting in robbery, assault, terroristic threats and weapons charges against one man.

Police say 29 year-old Mark R. Hanuszak of Phillipsburg targeted a 19 year-old unnamed male victim from Neshanic Station during a card game at a Northwood Drive residence in the Solitude Village section of High Bridge Borough.

The incident was reported at around 9 a.m. on July 20 when the victim was allegedly released from a bathroom where he was held against his will overnight.

During the card game the night before, Hanuszak had threatened to kill the victim, had demanded money from him and had repeatedly tried to stab him with a knife, according to police. Police say others present intervened.

The victim reported to police that $600 cash was taken from him during the incident.

The Hunterdon County Prosecutor charged Hanuszak with robbery, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and possession of a weapon.

Hanuszak faces further charges for possession of drug paraphernalia after police found such items on his person when arresting him.

Hanuszak is currently in custody at the Hunterdon County Jail after being unable to post $50,000 bail.
