Former New Jersey sheriff indicted on sex charges

A former New Jersey sheriff has been indicted on child sex abuse charges.

A Warren County grand jury handed up a six-count indictment.

The indictment claims that in the mid 1980s, while working as Warren County sheriff, Edward Bullock sexually abused a 10-year-old boy for several years.

"We have been working with his attorney. We know where he is. There is no warrant. We believe he will voluntarily surrender himself," Warren County First Assistant Prosecutor Michael McDonald said.

The now 85-year-old Bullock lives in Ocean County.

"It's refreshing and restores public accountability for the actions taken today," Attorney Brad Russo stated.

Russo represents the alleged victim who's suing Bullock and the county. The boy was under the custody of the county during the time of the alleged abuse. His civil suit is what led prosecutors to investigate Bullock.

Russo says a lot of the abuse happened inside the Warren County Courthouse.

"Involves removing from a holding cell in the courthouse. The abuse actually took place in the sheriff's office," Russo alleges.

Russo's suit also claims Bullock sexual assaulted the troubled youth during a county transfer.

Bullock resigned in 1991 after being arrested by state police for trying to solicit sexual favors from an undercover cop posing as a teenage boy.

Bullock pleaded guilty to official misconduct and spent time in the Hunterdon County (NJ) Correctional Jail.

Russo says that investigation showed Bullock also admitted to abusing at least eight other troubled youths who were being cared for by the county.

"They were really the perfect victim because there was no family coming forward," he said.

We reached out to both Bullock and his attorney. Bullock wasn't home and his attorney declined to comment.
