Woman opens engagement ring box, police find Xanax bars inside

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - Hackettstown police responded to the 100 block of Route 182 in regards to a possible theft Wednesday afternoon. 

While they were investigating, the 21-year-old woman said she needed to get her engagement ring out of her vehicle. 

But when she opened the box it was in, 17 Xanax bars were located inside, according to police. 

Officials searched the vehicle and found a red diamond grinder with suspected marijuana residue and a multi-colored glass pipe with suspected burnt marijuana residue.

Maria Martinez-Mendez of Hackettstown was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of Xanax. She was released pending a court appearance.
