BERNVILLE, Pa. - A woman is behind bars, accused of setting fire to a home with her six children and boyfriend still inside.
It was on Saturday, May 1, 2010, when the massive fire shook up the town of Bernville, Berks County.
It took investigators 10 months to crack the case, but on Monday, April 4, state police arrested Stacey Strunk of Frystown for allegedly starting that fire at 202 2nd Street.
Strunk's boyfriend, Jay Seigfried, and her six children were inside when the flames grew. No one was hurt.
"Bernville is an old town," said Tpr. David Beohm, Pa. State Police. "A lot of wooden structures, the winds blowing the wrong way, it could have the whole block on fire."
Borough officials said the fire was the worst they've seen in the borough in decades, causing about $253,000 worth of damage.
Strunk, 39, was charged with arson, criminal mischief, and recklessly endangering another person.
"We want to make sure we have all of our 'i''s dotted and 't''s crossed and when we make the arrest, it's a solid arrest," said Beohm, who added that police were called to the home on several occasions over the years for the couple's domestic disputes.
Neighbors said they weren't surprised to hear of the charges against Strunk.
According to state police records, Strunk was facing assault charges for allegedly attacking Seigfried before.
