Woman dies from injuries when her car hit tractor trailer

Marilyn Spier of Hackettstown died the next day.

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - An elderly woman has succumbed to injuries suffered in a crash on Thursday.

The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Mountain View Drive in Hackettstown, Warren Co., N.J.

Police said a tractor trailer driven by 57-year-old William Grover of Morgantown, Berks Co., Pa., was parked partially in the southbound lane of Grand Avenue without hazard lights activated.

Grover was trying to find a way to turn the truck around since it wouldn't clear the culvert on Grand Avenue, police said.

A car driven by 81-year-old Marilyn Spier of Hackettstown was traveling south on Grand when she looked down to get a tissue, and her car ran into the back of the tractor trailer, police said.

Spier was flown to Morristown Medical Center where she died on Friday.

Grover was not hurt.

He was cited for being parked in a no parking zone, obstructing the passage of other vehicles, failure to activate hazard lights and careless driving.

The accident remains under investigation.
