Team USA wins World Cup

Team USA had to wait five long days after beating Germany in Tuesday's semifinals to have a shot at making history.  They'd face Japan in Sunday night's 2015 World Cup final, a rematch of the 2011 championship, in which Japan came back in regulation and overtime to win the World Cup in penalty kicks.

IronPigs win, Fightin Phils get smoked

Down on the farm, the IronPigs split the first two games of their four game weekend set in Rochester.  Sunday afternoon, Chase d'Arnaud hit a solo shot, his second homerun of the season.  Tyler Henson drove in two on an rbi double, and Russ Canzler added another on an rbi single.  Jason Berken pitched eight and two third scoreless innings, before giving up a two run shot in the 9th.  IronPigs win, 4-2.  Lehigh Valley wraps up the series Monday and begin a three game set with Pawtucket at Coca Cola Park on Tuesday night.

The Fightin Phils (43-38) lost to the Trenton Thunder (45-36) 9-2 on Saturday night. The Fightins and Thunder played in front of a crowd of 9,767 - the tenth largest crowd in the history of FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (35-49) rebounded from a 16-inning loss Friday with a 4-3 win at Rochester (44-38) on Saturday night at Frontier Field.
