St. Luke's unveils Hybrid OR

St. Luke's Hospital is pulling back the curtain on a brand new hybrid operating room.

The system is equipped with laser-guided navigation and can maneuver around all parts of the patient.

It combines imaging and surgical technologies in the OR.

That means doctors can diagnose the medical problem and*fix it all in one place.

"It allows us to perform these types of combined procedures all in one location without moving the patient. In addition, it allows us to perform some more minimally invasive procedures," said Dr. Hal Folander.

Those procedures include heart valve replacement.

The system can also be used in some trauma cases.

St. Luke's says it's the first hospital in the country to offer this new hybrid technology.
