Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has activated forward Tuomo Ruutu from the injured non-roster list. Rutherford also announced that defenseman Joe Corvo has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to March 16. Ruutu, 30, underwent hip surgery on Dec. 14, 2012, and has not played a game this season. The Vantaa, Finland, native finished the 2011-12 regular-season campaign with 18 goals and 16 assists (34 points) in 72 regular-season games with Carolina. Ruutu (6’0”, 205 lbs.) is in his ninth NHL season and his sixth with the Hurricanes. Originally drafted in the first round, ninth overall, by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Ruutu has scored 129 goals and earned 170 assists (299 points) in 532 career NHL regular-season games with Chicago and Carolina. He was acquired by the Hurricanes from Chicago via trade on Feb. 26, 2008.
